Should you choose a Gas Water Heater or an Electric Water Heater?
Natural Gas fuels over half of all water heaters and electricity heats most of the remaining heaters. If natural gas is available a gas water heater would be your most economical choice. Gas is cheaper and faster at heating your tank of water but in some cases gas cannot be used. If it is impossible to run a flue out the roof to carry the water heater's combustion emissions or if gas is not available in your area an electric water heater would be your best choice. Electric water heaters are usually less expensive to install than a gas water heater because they do not require venting but unless electricity is extremely affordable in the region where you live, an electric water heater can be significantly more expensive to run.
